Pappy & Co Repeal Day Event Cincinnati 2014

    MattBy MattDecember 10, 2014Updated:December 10, 2014No Comments3 Mins Read

I trust that  all of the ModernThirst faithful are enjoying Repeal Week.  I’ve heard lots of good things from The Bourbon Society of Greater Cincinnati about their event on Monday, and continue to hear about great Repeal celebrations around the country.  Most of these celebrations seem to involve bourbon.  And why not? It is our Native Spirit.

I was lucky enough to be invited to an exclusive Repeal Day event hosted by Pappy & Co and Rockfish Interactive at 1215 Wine Bar & Coffee Lab in downtown Cincinnati.  During this event, myself and other local ‘Influencers’ were treated to Van Winkle family recipe bourbon balls, hors d’oeuvres, some Eagle Rare Old Fashioneds, and most importantly, the 2014 Pappy van Winkle 15 year and 20 year Family Reserve.

    Let the tasting begin!

Carrie Van Winkle Greener (daughter of Julian Van Winkle, III) told the story of how she and her sisters wanted to get into the family business, and chose to start a merchandise line to complement the highly sought after bourbon. It was very enjoyable hearing what it was like “Growing Up Van Winkle” Dave Knox from Rockfish added some more insight on the Pappy & Co brand.

It was very nice reconnecting with some of our favorite bloggers, The Bourbon Guys and Charlie & Ginny Tonic. It was nice to have such great company to compare notes as we tasted this year’s Pappy offerings.  While there is a compelling argument over which Pappy is the best, we all agreed that this years 20 Year Pappy is the clear winner.  Certainly some previous 15 Year releases have been world class, but this night, we were all going back for more of the 20 year.  I look forward to many more nice pours in my new Pappy Glencairn glass.

The hosts made sure that everyone traveled safely and responsibly by giving the attendees free rides from Uber, a nice touch. Please enjoy the rest of rest of Repeal week and the Holidays responsibly.
