Batch 9 is a 13-year-old bourbon that was distilled in Tennessee, matured in Tennessee and Kentucky, and is one of the oldest out of the Barrell Bourbon line up. It is bottled at a cask strength 56.05% ABV.
Appearance
Reddish amber hue and slightly lighter (for something with a bit of extra age on it) but still looks warm and inviting.
Nose
Bursting with nuts, toffee, and caramel up front. There’s also a beautiful toasted note of creme brulee and dried fruit- think apricot and a tinge of cherry.
Taste
The nuttiness and sweet flavors continued once it hit the palate with butterscotch, caramel, vanilla and toasted pecan. There is the slightest bit of oak and leather in the distance but nothing that is overbearing.
Finish
Medium to long finish that stays relatively sweet for most of the finish
Synopsis
This is a beautiful, well rounded bourbon and an excellent example of what an older cask strength bourbon can be. Itd justifies its higher price point that’s complex but easy to drink. Batch 009 has become one of my favorites and has been growing harder and harder to find; so if you come across it, grab it.
