So after two weeks of hype, analysis and controversy, Super Bowl Sunday is finally here. I think we would all prefer to have this game be on a Saturday, so we could really keep the party going without regard to the dreaded Monday morning. However, with it being on a Sunday, it probably lends itself to more in home parties. Which, depending on the party may lead to better or worse drink choices than going out to the local bar. Stocking up for this day can be exciting and overwhelming. We are at the tail end of all of the winter beer releases, so you can still get many of the great porters, stouts and winter ales, in addition, all of the Spring IPA and sessions are coming out, so I don’t need to tell you that you should have a good variety of your favorites on hand. But to keep things interesting, its always fun to have some beers befitting the occasion, by this I mean the local beers of the competing teams. With the Northeast and the Northwest both being great beer areas, it would be impossible to put together a comprehensive list of your options. So I present you with a Seattle Beer, a New England Beer and then our Super Bowl MVB.
Seattle:
Pyramid Brewing, located right downtown Seattle has some great Beers and while their hefeweizen is probably best known, and a decent brew in its own rite, I will name their Outburst Imperial IPA as my beer of choice to represent the Seatle Seahawks. I was lucky enough to visit Pyramid a few years back:
New England:
No, I am not going to choose Sam Adams here. And I certainly do not want to upset Mr. Jim Koch, who actually first created Boston Lager in my hometown Cincinnati, and brews more beer here than in New England. Hopefully not choosing Sam Adams will not lead to another Jim Koch rant. The Brewery I choose is New England Brewing Company, not only for the name, but they happen to brew one of the best Imperial IPAs that I have had: Gandhi Bot. This is the beer I choose to represent the New England Patriots,even if it will invite Bill Belichick is a robot jokes..
MVB:
Red Hook is probably the most relevant brewery for today’s game. They have two breweries, one in Woodinville, WA just 20 miles from Safeco Field home of the Seattle Seahawks and the other one is in Portsmouth, NH roughly 80 miles from the New England Patriot’s home, Gillette stadium.
The beer I will recommend here, for added Super Bowl relevance, is Audible Ale. Dan Patrick is the face of this years NBC Super Bowl coverage, and will be presenting the MVP trophy, and conveniently Audible Ale was a created at Red Hook with the help of Dan Patrick (and the Danettes).
