Both Matt and I will be on site this Friday, February 13th, at the Cincinnati Winter Beerfest. What is the Cincinnati Winter Beerfest, you ask? It’s over 350 craft brews and brewers and thousands of beer enthusiasts all gathered under one roof at the Duke Energy Convention Center to sample, discuss, and enjoy some of the nation’s best brews. Modern Thirst and friends will be in attendance, and in a Modern Thirst first, we may record a little video of the event of readers from far away locales to get a better sense of the festival. This is good timing…

Again, the voting was close, but February’s Bourbon of the Month is a popular sip from Buffalo Trace: Eagle Rare. Throughout the month, we’ll discuss Eagle Rare on a number of different forums, from Twitter, to Facebook, to this site. An official review will be posted later in the month as well. In the meantime, send us your own thoughts, tasting notes, reviews, photos, etc! Post in our forums, post comments on the article, email us at [email protected], Tweet us (@Modern_Thirst), or send us direct messages on Facebook! Cheers!

The Kentucky Distillers Association reported yesterday that a record number of people visited and toured Kentucky Bourbon Trail and Craft Trail in 2014. Over 725,000 people to be more precise. I know that includes many of our readers. That 725,000 number doesn’t even include Buffalo Trace, which is not a member of the Bourbon Trail. That’s a lot of people. We’d love to see stories and photos of your visits to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail or any other distillery in 2014. Send them to [email protected]!
Wild Turkey announced this week that Eddie Russell, the son of legendary Master Distiller Jimmy Russell, has been given the official title of Master Distiller alongside his hall-of-Fame father, at Wild Turkey. He will be releasing his first whiskey as Master Distiller this year as well, that his father called one of the best whiskeys he has ever tasted. And the two will jointly release a new Russell’s Reserve this year as well. Congrats, Eddie!
Rittenhouse should be considered one of the better value pours on the market, and one of the richer, more complex rye whiskeys available. Perhaps it’s Heaven Hill’s cost of money, maybe it’s just good business sense, but Heaven Hill continues to produce outstanding whiskeys at great values that remain available regularly on shelves.
