Ha! Got you! Wild Turkey isn’t making a beer, but the folks at Anderson Valley Brewing Company in California produce an intriguing stout that they age for three months in Wild Turkey barrels. We have some on hand and will be posting our review in the coming days, so stay tuned!

True to form, it’s loaded with traditional 4 Roses floral aromas. I suggest a few drops of distilled water to really bring out the depth. It’s not a weak bourbon, so be prepared. Be on the lookout for a full review in the next week.
If the Bourbon Boom has done anything, it has made “Pappy” a household name. If I get any question when I speak about bourbon, it’s usually “So do you have any Pappy Van Winkle?” “Do you know where I can get some Pappy?” or the more direct “What’s so good about Pappy?” To answer those questions: Yes, I have a small amount. No, I don’t know where you can get more. And lastly, that’s a complicated question. To really answer it, let’s start with a quick overview of the brand and whiskey itself. Pappy Van Winkle is a line of…
Great news for an important piece of bourbon history. The Stitzel-Weller distillery was the home of the Van Winkle Bourbon line for many years. It’s interesting, really. Currently, the United States stands in second place at the Sochi Olympics in overall medals. Impressive, right? We’re a sports juggernaut, right? A closer look shows the truth. Actually, don’t look closer, it’ll just disappoint you. We’re super awesome at made-up pseudo sports, and pretty mediocre at real ones. The United States has won 7 gold medals. Two are in Halfpipe Skiing and Snowboards, 3 are in slopestyle skiing and snowboarding, one is in ice dancing. That’s 6 of our 7 gold medals won in sports where someone judges the participants based on style. Style? Really? Really.…

The winner was a run-away victory for Col. E. H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch. We are not ones to let our readers down, so here it is: What it is: The Col. E.H. Taylor, Jr. line has been big news on the whiskey circuit since the line was introduced in 2011. The line boasts several different offerings, including several bourbons and a rye. The Small Batch Bourbon is the entry level offering in the line that debuted…
It seems like this winter just won’t go away. Damn that groundhog and his shadow! We’ve reached the mid-point of February. In most years, we are just coming out of the coldest portions of the winter here in the Midwest and Upper South (or Mid-South, as the area is coming to be called). This year, we’re bracing for yet another winter storm. Global Warming? Yes, Please. Sporting events have been postponed, schools are closed yet again, and cities are shutting down as ice and snow pelts much of the country like a scene from The Day After Tomorrow. Winter Storm…

As we at the Modern Thirst compound were preparing for our next official bourbon review, we were faced with a dilemma. With over 25 bourbons on the liquor shelf, there are many choices. We narrowed down our options to a few and decided to let our readers decide. So which bourbon would you like to see reviewed next? [polldaddy poll=7795266]
