Here’s a tasty use for bourbon! Courtesy of Katty’s kitchen Marshmallow treats, it’s time to grow up and meet your Maker(’s Mark)–with bourbon and a touch of cinnamon. I read online about making Rice Whisky Treats and couldn’t resist giving this idea a try. I adjusted the original marshmallow treats recipe to add an extra 1/2 cup of Krispies to compensate for the additional liquid. And is this not the cutest nip anywhere, ever?! Cheers and let’s get on it! These are perfect fall snickity-snacks! Click here for the full recipe.

What it is: W.L. Weller is produced in Frankfort, KY at the massive Buffalo Trace Distillery.  In years past, it was owned by the Van Winkle family and produced at the famed Stitzel-Weller distillery.  Today, it shares the mash bill of the Pappy offerings, though the aging locations, times, and barrel choices differ. Though age statements have been removed from the label, W.L. Weller is likely a 4-7 year old bourbon bottled at 90 proof.  My bottle was a barrel-select program from…

Fitzgerald (of Old Fitzgerald family fame) habit of using his personal keys to the bourbon warehouses to ‘liberate’ barrels of his favorite bourbon to give to family and friends.  There have been numerous reports that Heaven Hill intends to replace the Old Fitzgerald line with larceny, but they are…

Distilled/Bottled by: Jim Beam Brands, Clermont, KY Availability: Available  What it is: Booker’s is the strongest offering from the extremely popular Jim Beam Small Batch Collection.  Introduced in 1992, it is a barrel-strength bourbon that is aged 6-8 years and goes into the bottle at around 63% alcohol, which rounds out to 125 proof.  The folks at Beam say it can range anywhere from 121 to 127 proof, depending on the barrel.  Our bottle is 63.5% alcohol, or 127 proof.  It was aged…

So despite my penchant for bourbon, I rarely make it to my local liquor store without checking the craft beer aisle as well. My latest stop happened to have me in the store as they were stocking a couple of different offering from Three Floyds, including the company’s flagship beer, Alpha King. A quick check with resident Modern Thirst biermeister, Matt, and I knew I had to pick up a six pack. According to the brewer, Alpha King is an American Pale Ale (APA) made from Cenntennial, Cascade, and Warrior hops. It has bold citrus flavors and aromas. Alpha King…
