From his humble beginnings as a Burger Light and Hudy Delight drinker, he has developed a palate for some of the America’s best beer, bourbon and wine. He has enjoyed visits to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, and countless breweries. In 2013 he became more serious about homebrewing, and has hopes to continue to expand his brewing hobby. June 25, 2014 If you were looking for a Fathers Day gift for a ModernThirst owner, yes beer and bourbon are always a good choice.  Since my daughters are not of legal age to purchase such gifts, I received something that will make bourbon better!  That is the hope at least.  This is a 1 Liter barrel made of used bourbon barrels from Bluegrass Barrels.  Many things could be done with this barrel, such as aging cocktails and other spirits, but I am going to stick with just straight bourbon whiskey.  I figure adding some age to a single digit…

The Evolution of Bourbon with Bernie Lubbers…get your BiB! This society just keeps on rolling! Bourbon Society of Greater Cincinnati had their 4th monthly meeting with as many great speakers.  Bernie Lubbers author of “Bourbon Whiskey-Our Native Spirit”  and self proclaimed “Whiskey Professor”completed this superfecta. Rhinegeist Truth  Growler Brewers description: Intensely hopped, dry IPA with Centennial, Citra, Amarillo and Simcoe hops. We hop this at a rate of 3lbs/bbl to rev up peach, mango, and passionfruit notes. 7.2% ABV 75 IBU Aroma Not a lot going on here.  Sublte hopiness and a little grassy.  Clean, smooth scents. 16/24 Appearance Superior clarity, which seems to be a Rhinegeist cornerstone.  Nice small bubbles.  Traditional “beer” color 6/6 Flavor Nice light barleymalt throughout.  Very smooth with bold hops. A fantastic tradition in the Queen City is Memorial Day Weekend’s Taste of Cincinnati. It is an annual celebration of the region’s great restaurants, with some of their more famous dishes served in tasty sample sizes, for about a buck a bite.
