Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond
While value is in the eye of the beholder, this has to be considered among the best values in the wheated bourbon category.

Old Fitzgerald is another venerable bourbon label. It is currently produced by Heaven Hill at the new Bernheim facility in Louisville. It’s a Wheated Bourbon, and shares its mash with Larceny and Old Fitzgerald 12 year. It can be found in 90 proof, or Bottled-in-Bond at 100 Proof. This review covers the Bottled-in-Bond version.
- Appearance: Deep gold.
- Nose: Bakery goods (wedding cake) and corn sweetness.
- Taste: Wheat tingle on the tip of the tongue, more white cake, mint, wheat, and maple syrup on the back with cinnamon showing its head on the end.
- Finish: Medium finish with the sweetness and wheat tingle remaining through the end.
- Score: 86/100.
Synopsis:
OF100 is very good representative of Heaven Hill’s wheated bourbons, with a slight mint taste and a definite wheat tingle. While it’s not quite as smooth as its slightly older cousin, Larceny, or especially it’s older brother, Old Fitzgerald 12 Year, it still retains the bulk of that flavor profile. There is a sticky sweetness on this bourbon that reminds one of both mint and wedding cake icing. It is a thoroughly enjoyable sipper neat or with water/ice. While value is in the eye of the beholder, this has to be considered among the best values in the wheated bourbon category.

I have a bottle of Old Fitzgerald Says made Spring of 1968. Bottled Fall of 1974. Never opened. Is it still good or even better?
Should be fine! Let us know how it tastes!
Has this been discontinued? Internet research is decidedly mixed. All I know is that when I see a bottle on the shelf, I buy it. Thanks for the thoughtful review.
Heaven Hill maintains that it has not been discontinued, but I know the distribution is limited to only a handful of states. I’ve been seeing it more often locally, and just grabbed a 1.75L of it. It’s one of my everyday bourbons.
I just bought two bottles in Subic Bay P.I. from the Duty Free. They had at least three cases on the shelf. $17. Can’t wait to try one and save one.
